Crawley Wasps 6 Wandgas 1
Crawley Wasps continued their unbeaten start to the season with a comfortable 6-1
victory over Wandgas. Despite going a goal down early on Wasps equalised when Katie
Offler benefited from Leigh-anne Covey's hard work to slot home into an empty net.
After half time Wasps produced a great team display to score 5 goals with all five
coming from Leigh-anne Covey after she was picked to play in a more advanced role
in attack. Covey used her speed to continuely outpace the oppostions back line with
Harriot Minihane creating most of the chances and causing the opposition problems.
Although the oppositon didn't cause the home side too many problems Wasps were solid
at the back and the midfield created plenty of chances for the inform Covey to finish
and on another day the scoreline could have been in double figures. Wasps will look
to build on this strong attacking team performance in their next game away at Chichester
on Sunday.

Crawley Wasps 1 Tooting & Mitcham 1 (League)
Crawley Wasps faced a well organised and strong Tooting & Mitcham side at Jubilee
Fields on Sunday. Wasps were looking to add to their 4-2 victory on the opening day
of the season. The visitors had the first real effort on goal in the first five minutes
with Catherine Poleykett doing well to tip an effort onto the bar. Both teams were
looking to get forward at every oppurtunity and were playing good football throughout
the first 45 minutes. Emma Jaymes was put through down the right and pulled it back
for Harriet Minihane who controlled it well with her chest but couldn't connect well
enough with the shot to trouble the 'keeper. Both sides came out after the break
continuing to play good attacking football. Leigh-anne Covey picked up the ball inside
her own half and ran half the length of the pitch to cut the ball inside for Emma
Jaymes to beat the onrushing 'keeper from the edge of the area to put Wasps 1-0 up.
With the home team pressing forward Harriet Minihane picked up the ball on the half
way line and played in Emma Jaymes who shot towards the top corner drawing a good
save from the opposing 'keeper. Michelle Ward then made a great last ditch tackle
inside the Wasps box to stop Tooting getting a shot off on goal. With 5 minutes to
go and Tooting pushing forward looking for an equaliser Wasps managed to get a corner
which after being cleared is whipped back in by centre back Laura Elliot but Emma
Jaymes shot was saved. Substitute 'keeper Rachel Hillman who replaced Catherine Poleykett
in goal just after the break saved well from a free kick and then saw a header hit
the outside of the post. In time added on Tooting snatched an equaliser with the
last kick of the game after a 30 yard strike was riffled into the back of the net.
Although it was a cruel end to the game for the home team they will take a lot of
positives from this strong performance.
Wasps: Poleykett (Hillman), Harding, Spicer, Elliot, Ward, Covey, Davies,
Hallgren (Worsfold), Offler (Knight), Minihane, Jaymes. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Crawley Wasps 4 Boreham Wood 2 (League)
Crawley Wasps ot off to a winning start in the London & South East Regional league
with a well deserved hard working 4-2 victory over Boreham Wood. Wasps edged out
the visitors in the first half and went in at half time 1-0 up thanks to Emma Jaymes
finishing from inside the box having been put through on goal. After the break Boreham
Wood started the 2nd half a stronger side and equalised however Wasps hit back through
a low drive into the bottom corner from Suzie Davies. With Boreham Wood looking for
an equaliser Wasps caught them on the break and Sophia Pittounikos crossed low for
Leigh-anne Covey to burst in and finish from 6 yards. With Boreham Wood pushing forward
looking for a way back into the game the back four stood strong but were undone when
Boreham Wood pulled one back to give the home side a nervy last 5 minutes. With time
running out Wasps finished the game off when a hard working run from Harriet Minihane
enabled her to finish low into the corner.
*Emma Jaymes should have had a second when she was put through on goal and smashed
a shot against the underside of the bar but it dropped the wrong side of the line.
